You guys wanted to see it, here it is. The complete progress of making an inductive charging mod with no visible wires, no visible soldering points, free usb port and easily removable back cover squeezed into one Youtube video. I only had one try and couldn’t plan much ahead, but as you will see on the video, the whole process is fairly simple and straightforward. This mod will void your warranty, though I don’t think a Samsung repair man will be able to find traces of this mod on first sight if removed cleanly.
Parts you will need for this mod:
- Palm Pre back cover and Touchstone dock (thanks to handingo for providing the parts)
- Self-adhesive copper foil
- thin wire
- small (#00) Phillips screwdriver
- soldering iron
- solder
And here is how you do everything:
Do you know if the inductive charging will work with a case on the phone? I’d like to try this, but I have a snap on rubberized plastic case and would like to keep that on the phone.

und ich kann trotzdem induktiv laden.

…HOW exactly are you NOT supposed to short the pins. They are so small soldering them without shorting the other ones is impossible :/
Just do it like how I did it in the video. I didn’t short the pins as you can see 🙂
Use flux and watch some tutorials about (smd)/soldering. grab an old mainboard or something like that and try it till you are confident enough that you will not mess up your phone.
It`s not so hard.

Yes it will. I modded a case for my dads Nokia N8, which works perfectly. Yeah, everyone around me has a Touchstone now, so I can charge my phone everywhere. 😉

I wouldn`t try it – but it shouldn`t (no guarantee!) be a problem. Voltage doesn`t add up in parallel circuits.
I’d be interested in a tutorial for the Samsung Infuse – I’m guessing it would be similar?

Absolutely awesome, Thank you so much! I just ordered the parts off eBay and I’m gonna do this. One question though before I do this: At 6:33 in the video, you say to “solder the copper wire to it’s neighbour pin”. I’m a bit confused by this and I can’t make out enough detail in the video. For the first “L” of copper, could you explain where it connects? Obviously you tape it to the back, but do you tuck it around to the front pin, or where does it go exactly, and is it what you’re soldering at 6:33?

The L goes around from the back to the front and needs to be soldered to the pins from the inductive charging circuit. The smaller L goes to the outer pin and the bigger L to the inside pin.

Ich hab mein Defy umgebaut.
Problem: Spannung kommt an (Multimeter sagt 5,46 V) – aber laden will es nicht. Im ausgeschalteten Zustand signalisiert die LED, dass es lädt (tut es aber nicht). Im angeschalteten Zustand passiert nichts.
Irgend eine Idee? Lädt das Ding vielleicht nur, wenn die Data pins kurzgeschlossen sind?
Ich hab die Induktionsspule andersrum montiert. Ist das ein Problem?

Ich habs jetzt getestet. Das Ding lädt NUR, wenn die data pins kurzgeschlossen werden. Verdammte S****** 🙁
Hab ein Micro-USB Kabel aufgeschnitten, Data kurzgeschlossen, eingesteckt, das Gerät auf den Touchstone gepackt – lädt!
Ich werde jetzt versuchen mir einen kleinen Stecker zu machen (wie in deinem ersten mod), der nach möglichkeit unter die Gummiabdeckkappe des USB Ports passt.
Das Gerät ist auch nach dem Mod noch wasserdicht (getestet). Ich hab da locker mal 4 Stunden dran gesessen, bis ich es so hatte – und jetzt sowas -.-
*noch ein Grund nie wieder Moto zu kaufen*
